    "I was very thirsty," he said. -

    He said(that) he had been very thirsty.

    "Be careful," she said. -

    She told me to be careful

    "Why haven't you told me?" he asked me.

    He wondered why I hadn't told him.

    "I cannot take them home," he said. -

    He said (that) he couldn't take them home.

    *He said, "Don't go to the beach alone."

    He told us not to go to the beach alone

    He told us "Have you been shopping for food?"

    He wanted to know if we had been shopping for food.

    "What's the time?" he asked. -

    He asked what the time was.

    "When will we see each other again?" she asked me. -

    She asked me when we would see each other again.

    "Where did they live before moving here?" he asked. -

    He wanted to know where they had lived before moving there.

    "Will you be at Tom's party?" he asked her. -

    He asked her if she would be at Tom's party.

    "Can you meet me at the train station?" she asked me.

    She asked me if I could meet her at the train station.

    "Did you see that great car?" he asked me.

    He asked me if I had seen that great car.

    He said, "They won't sleep." -

    He said (that) they wouldn't sleep.

    She said, "It is very quiet here." -

    Il faut faire attention à la concordance des temps

    si le verbe introducteur est au passé, alors le temps dans le "reported speech" change

    présent simple = past simple

    présent continu  = past continu

    futur will = would

    present perfect  = past perfect

    present perfect continuous =  past perfect continuous

    prétérit = past perfect

    prétérit continuous =  past perfect continuous

    il faut aussi changer les adverbes, de lieu, de temps

    Yesterday > The day before/The previous day

    Tomorrow   >The next day/The following day
